Kids (4-12 years)

A lot can happen to kids’ teeth as they grow up. This is probably the age when your child will have his or her first dental experience, and we do all we possibly can to make it a great experience.

During this time, a child will begin to lose baby (primary) teeth. The first permanent teeth to erupt (at around age 6) are actually molars. These molars come up behind all the primary teeth, before any primary teeth are actually lost. If the baby teeth have caries (decay) in them, this can carry over to these new permanent teeth, and break them down before they even have a chance. Placing sealants on these permanent teeth as soon as possible is a great way to avoid getting cavities in these teeth we will hopefully have for the rest of our lives. Proper fluoride exposure (not too little and not too much) continues to be important during this stage of development. We also begin thinking about the need for orthodontic care (braces).
