Infants (0-12 months)

Before teeth erupt (0-6 months):

With no teeth, most infants won’t need any dental work during this first stage of life. Even with no erupted teeth, there are things you can do to get your children ready to take care of their teeth. If you have an infant, or are an expecting parent, ask us for tips on keeping your baby on track to excellent dental care.

If your child is at high risk for developing cavities at a young age (for example if you have had other young children get cavities) we can sit down with you and discuss what you can do as a parent to prevent this from happening. If you notice any abnormalities or have questions about your baby’s gums, tongue, or cheeks, please give us a call.

As teeth erupt (6-12 months):

Although eruption times vary greatly, you may see your child’s first teeth show up at around 6 months of age. Brushing should begin as soon as these teeth are visible. Watch for dark (or even white) spots on the teeth, as they may be signs of early tooth decay. If you are having difficulty brushing your child’s teeth or would like more information on caring for them, please contact us for an appointment.
